  Digging season 2004

Second report (August 23, 2004)

Since the Siber team started excavating the Stegosaurus "Sarah", the excitement over this exceptional find grows day by day.
During the last few days many major bones were found. For example, of the 17 known, 14 preserved dorsal plates were uncorvered so far.
The most important question to all dinosaur diggers is: "Is the head preserved?" We can answer this one with "Yes"! It is there, however broken up into many fragments and partially still enclosed in the host rock. The full excavation of the head will be finished in our lab in Switzerland.
The main event of this digging season was the foto shooting of "Sarah": Chris lifted Kirby on an excavator shovel high above "Sarah" where Kirby then could shoot the fantastic photo shown below.
